History and Development:
During the 1980s, Gulf Air started to cancel their flights to Dubai. As a result, a crisis – a lack of flight was created in Dubai. It was high time for Dubai to have their own airlines. During March 1985, the Royal Family of Dubai came forward with a solution. As a result, a management body was formed and they took 2 PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) aircraft on lease, a Boeing 737–300 and an Airbus A300B4-200. PIA helped and contributed a lot. They also arranged necessary training for the future cabin crews of Emirates in the PIA training academy. This is how Emirates Airlines was born. As per the donation from the Royal Family of Dubai, Emirate’s initial capital was a mere $10 million only. Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum was appointed as the Chairman, who is still performing his duties as Chairman and CEO. Maurice Flanagan was appointed as the first CEO.

As of September 2018, Emirates operates to 161 destinations in 85 countries across six continents from its hub in Dubai. It has a particularly strong presence in the South and Southeast Asian regions, which together connect Dubai with more international destinations in the region than any other Middle Eastern airline. The countries with the largest number of airports served by Emirates are the United States with 12, India with 9, the United Kingdom with 8 and Australia and Pakistan with 5.
